'LOMO-compact' is a first russian miniature camera with automatic exposure. LOMO started to manufacture it in 1983. This camera is provided with excellent optics and electronic shutter, controlled by the exposure device. Due to its light weight (only 250 gr), small size (107x68x43,5 mm) and durability of the body, you can always carry it in your pocket or handbag. A combination of high-quality and rather low price of the camera and automation of the main photo steps made this camera highly popular in the early 80-s.
Due to the camera 'LOMO-compact', Lomographic society was born in Austria in 1992. The Society proclaims a new direction of photoart and a special way of life, when most of the time is spent with 'LOMO-compact' camera. The main features of Lomographers lifestyle are concluded in the word "LOMO", which they decoded in their manner as 'love and motion'. This very expression has become the motto of International Lomographic Society uniting members in the whole world. Since 1995 all cameras 'LOMO-compact' produced by LOMO, have been supplied to International Lomographic Society which has exclusive rights for the product. Therefrom the cameras are distributed worldwide.
The members of Lomographic Society carry their camera everywhere, taking pictures during the day and at night, very fast and often spontaneously, that is, not looking into the viewfinder. Such snapshots are possible due to the depth of focus of the camera lens. 'LOMO-compact' does not require any professional skills and gives everybody a chance to experiment and to feel yourself an artist. With 'LOMO-compact' cameras, thousands diverse pictures are being made, which are later used for composing bizarre colourful panels of 10-meter length.
Now Lomographic Society is a large organization, which numbers around 500000 members. Lomographic Society has opened about 50 representatives - Embassies in different countries. Lomographic Society organizes exhibitions, multimedia-shows and trips. The best works are demonstrated in the Internet.
LOMO does not directly sell the cameras. They can be bought only in Embassies or on the web-site of Lomographic Society: www.lomography.com.
